Currently Glasgow, UK based. THEY/THEM.
What talks like Hermione Granger and looks like a Black Napoleon Dynamite (with slightly better posture)? Jean Christian Barry! I was raised in Durham, NC by a Journalist mother from Alabama and a Senegalese father with a passion for Sustainable Agriculture/Living. I have been surrounded by music always; from the cd’s my parents played telling of their cultures (MOTOWN, Youssou N’Dour, TLC, etc.), to the years in school choirs and orchestras. I found my focus on musicals at Durham School of the Arts. I then earned my BFA in Musical Theatre from East Carolina University in 2019, and have had the wonderful opportunity to perform professionally in Musicals, Plays, Theatre for Young Audiences, and even a historical drama. My current project is a MFA Course at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Acting Classical and Contemporary Texts. I am always searching for new (hopefully a little bit strange) theatre and music opportunities. I love to lead a show but, if there are too many roles I relate to, I’ve been known to swing!
I have a lot of love for Licorice Jelly Beans, Travel, and awesome books!
WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:
“Jean Christian Barry’s turn as CB here is charmingly charismatic, and from the moment they introduce themselves to you, you’ll follow Barry (and CB) anywhere”.
-Andrew White/BroadwayWorld on “Tornado Tastes Like Aluminum Sting” ———————————————
“It’s a shame we didn’t get more of Jean Christian Barry, as [they] delivered an incredible performance and had great energy on stage. The show could’ve used the energy Barry produces to carry it through...”
-Jenna Price/The East Carolinian on “Hands on A Hardbody”
“Another great performance was delivered by resident performer Jean Christian Barry as the Jamaican crustacean composer, Sebastian. This little crab has a big voice. Barry does a wonderful job as the friend and chaperon of Ariel, transitioning from annoyed to truly caring for the little mermaid. [Their] performances in ‘Under the Sea’ and ‘Kiss the Girl’ are phenomenal.”
-Samantha Piddy/My Carroll County News on “Disney’s The Little Mermaid”
“Synesthesia turns out to offer a lot of theatrical possibilities. Things that we experience in the theatre, in this play, we experience somewhat the way Chantal does. This is a tribute not only to the writing, but also to Jean Christian Barry’s spot on portrayal of Chantal.”
-J. Wynn Rousuck/Midday WYPR on “Tornado Tastes Like Aluminum Sting”
